The New Patriotic Party, NPP, has described the Economic Intelligence Unit, EIU report which predicts a slim win for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2024 elections as based on assumptions.
The party thinks the prediction is on the assumption that presidential power rotates over eight-year periods in the 4th Republic.
The Party says the report is a double-edged matter because the EIU predicts a win for the NPP should former President Mahama contest the polls.
The NPP says the twist is a huge boost to the NPP’s determination to live up to its mantra of “Breaking the 8”.
The EIU has tipped the National Democratic Congress, NDC to win the 2024 elections on condition that it will field a different candidate, other than former President Mahama for the elections in two years.
The NPP’s Director of Communications, Buabeng Asamoah sided with the EIU’s predictions, saying Mr. Mahama’s selection as Flagbearer will be a “huge boost to the NPP’s effort of actually breaking the 8”, since the NPP’s candidate will have a “better governance record based on the cumulative achievements of the Party in the 4th Republic.
Meanwhile, the NDC says it is unperturbed by the EIU’s predictions.
A member of the party, Edudzi Tamakloe in an interview with GBC News said the party ”is confident of winning the 2024 elections with former President Mahama as its Candidate”.
”This is rather the time for the party to work even harder to record a bigger margin in the 2024 elections”, Mr. Tamakloe opined.
