Thirty-Eight Students constituting the 16th Batch of products from the GBC Television and Radio Training School have graduated after undergoing a six-month intensive training in Media and Communication related courses. The programme has been designed to enhance the skills of professionals and students in the media and other Corporate environments to adequately equip them in their fields of endeavors.

Speaking at the graduation at the Broadcasting House in Accra, the Director-General of GBC, Professor Amin Alhassan urged the graduates to be good ambassadors of the school while putting the knowledge acquired to practice. He hinted that the GBC Training School will in the near future offer Diploma and Degree programmes for those who wish to continue their education.

The GBC has over the years gone beyond the mandate of being the State Broadcaster to being a reputable institution in the education of media personnel and professionals from other fields who wish to broaden their knowledge. The DG of GBC encouraged the students to continue seeking knowledge. He hinted that the training school will in the near future offer diploma and degree programs.

‘‘I want to enjoin you to prepare for the job market, those of you who are not yet in the job market. The world of media is becoming very complex and very soon the word broadcasting will not explain the work we do. Very soon the GBC will simply be called GBC, we will not only do broadcasting. Our core business is content production and you are the foot soldiers of content production’. ‘I am expecting that in five years’ time we should be issuing Diploma and Degrees in which case we will be able to allow those who have been trained to do top ups and get new credentials’’, the DG noted.

The Acting Principal of the GBC Training School, Madam Joyce Anim Ayeko reminded the graduates to be time conscious, while giving the best impression of themselves everywhere they find themselves.

”The certificate you have is not all you require. You must continue reading. It is said that if you want to hide something from an African, keep it in a book. I hope you are an exception to this rule. Be time conscious and know that presentation skills are a continuous curve and therefore you must keep learning. They say the way you appear says a lot about you and judge you by your dressing, look at the way you talk”.

Some students shared their experiences, saying it has been worth time spent at the GBC.

The students studied directing, producing, camera and lighting techniques, sound, script writing, graphics, digital video editing, art directing, production management as well as film and television entrepreneurship and were awarded certificates.
