Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, GBC’s Sports+ Channel has recently won five awards in different categories with the overall being the Best Soccer Television Station of the Year at the just ended Soccer Achievers Awards 2021.
Some of the awards won are, Soccer Broadcast Expert-George Lomotey, Commentator of the Year- Benjamin Willie Graham, Outstanding Media Personality of the Year- Gloria Peprah.
Mr. Lomotey again was recently awarded by the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG), a Meritorious Award 2021 for his extraordinary contribution to sports development in West Africa.
GTV Sports+ is a subordinate of the Kanda-based National Broadcaster – Ghana Broadcasting Corporation which was set up in 2010 and dedicated to Sports Programming.
Speaking about how GTV Sports+ got to its peak, the Channel Manager and Deputy Director of Television at GBC, Mr. George Lomotey disclosed that setting up a dedicated Sports Channel was not easy, ”as it came with its many challenges such as the cost involved when it comes to getting sports content for the Channel amongst other things”, but the commitment from his team to make GTV Sports+ Channel work is what pushed them to get to this point.
Mr. Lomotey dedicated the Awards to his team and thanked them for their endless support.
Explaining how the AFCON matches will be aired, Mr. Lomotey stated that the matches will be aired on all GBC channels such as GTV Sports+ who will be leading the broadcast of the tournament, GTV, Obonu with Ga commentary, and Garden City TV in Kumasi with Akan Commentary.
The African Cup of Nations is scheduled to be hosted by Cameroon and will take place from 9 January to 6 February 2022.
