About 800 pupils in the Akatsi North District of the Volta Region will now have desks to sit on for academic work following the presentation of 400 dual desks and co from the GETFUND through Member of Parliament for the Area, Peter Nortsu Kotoe, and Ranking Member of the Education Committee in Parliament
This comes as a relief to hundreds of school children in the district who did not have desks for years and this was confirmed by the MP.
“These 400 dual desks will go a long way in reducing the canker of furniture deficit in our schools and will be providing sitting space for a total of 800 pupils across the beneficiary schools in the district”.
He also noted that “these new desks would certainly not address all the challenges in the educational sector within the District/Constituency but it is a further step made towards the improvement in the education of our children”.
According to the MP, at a time he was receiving 200 of the dual desks from GETFUND, following his earlier appeal to them, the DCE, Peter Simon Ofosu was also receiving another set of 200 as a result of an appeal he also made.
“The joint presentation demonstrates that, together, we can develop the district”,
Peter Nortsu Kotoe wrote on his Facebook wall that, education remains a priority area for him and so, he is not only ensuring accessibility but, also ensuring that he provides the necessary infrastructure to facilitate teaching and learning in schools under his jurisdiction.
“It is worthy of note, that in 2021 alone, I initiated the building of modern classroom accommodation in five different schools across the Constituency with the aim of providing a standard learning environment for our school children”, he added.
