The African Centre for Energy Policy, ACEP, has asked the public to prepare for an eventual upward review of utility tariffs as proposed by the Service Providers.
The Electricity Company of Ghana, ECG, has proposed an increase of 148 percent this year and a further 7.6 average increase between 2022-2026.
Speaking to GBC News, the Executive Director of ACEP, Ben Boachie said the percentage increase being talked about is just a proposal which is subject to interrogation.
Nonetheless, he said electricity tariffs must go up to meet operational and distribution cost.
Mr. Boachie said complaints about economic hardships should not be the basis to avert an upward adjustment of electricity tariffs.
