At least one person is alleged to have died in a renewed clash between two communities: Doba in the Kassena-Nankana Municipal and Kandiga in the Kassena-Nankana West District all in the Upper East Region.
According to reports, there were sporadic gunshots between the two communities last night, which threatened the safety of road users plying the Bolgatanga-Navrongo road.
Even though the cause of the renewed fight is yet to be ascertained, Police say, calm has returned to the area and security beefed up to avert any eventuality.
Speaking to the media, the Upper East Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), ASP David Fianko-Okyere, confirmed the accident and hinted that five (people), have been arrested in connection with the riot and will soon be put before the court.
“When the gunshots were heard, the Police and Military moved in and contained the situation. Calm has been restored in the area. One person was shot dead, and five persons were arrested in connection with the disturbances. Investigations are currently ongoing, and the five persons will be processed for court for a decision to be made on them,” he said.
ASP Fianko-Okyere further announced that security has been reinforced in the troubled area as Police continue with investigations into the incident.
