Chief Justice Sophia Akufo has declared the 19th to the 23rd of this month as ADR week.
Alternative Dispute Resolution, ADR has been adopted by the Judicial Service as part of its adjudication process and has been dubbed “court-connected ADR”.
The aim of the program is to ensure that access to justice is made easier, cheaper and flexible to all, especially the poor and vulnerable.
The week is to give parties the opportunity to settle their cases through mediation and to also run programs and activities to create awareness on the availability of ADR as a complement to the adjudication process in the courts.
The focus of the week is to reduce the backlog of cases at the participating courts by 20 percent.
One hundred and seven courts comprising 28 circuit courts and 79 district courts across the country will be participating, by devoting the whole week for the settlement of court cases through with Alternative Dispute Resolution.
