Ofosu-Ampofo elected as NDC National Chairman

Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo has been elected as the National Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The Ninth National Delegate Congress of the NDC which saw the election of new National Excutives to steer the affairs of the party in the next four years, run into day two.

The over 9,000 delegates, converged at the Ghana International Trade Fair Centre, La, Accra.

Mr. Ofosu-Ampofo who has previously served as national organiser, vice chairman and director of elections for the NDC beat four other contestants, Alhaji Huudu Yahaya, Dan Abodakpi, Betty Mould-Iddrisu and Danny Annang.

Known as “Braa Sammy Photo”, Mr. Ampofo supervised election 2016 for the NDC as its director of elections.

Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo was a former District Chief Executive served under Former President Jerry John Rawlings.

He later run for Member of Parliament and won the seat for NDC, when the party lost power in 2000 election and went to opposition he stood for the party National Organizer position and won, he worked with his colleagues to get the party back to power in 2008.

Late Former president Mills appointed Ofosu-Ampofo as Minister for Local Government and Rural Development.

Prior to this appointment he had been the Eastern Regional Minister since the start of the Mills led government in 2009.

In 2014, Ofosu-Ampofo stood for National Vice Chairman and won convincingly and became the First Vice National Chairman of the NDC.

Former President John Dramani Mahama, appointed Ofosu-Ampofo as a Board Chairman of Ghana ports and Habour Authority in 2013.

 

For the General Secretary slot, the outgoing Deputy General Secretary the NDC, Koku Anyidoho could not unseat his boss, Johnson Asiedu Nketia who beat him to keep his position.

Anyidoho polled 1,625 votes in an election in which over 9,000 delegates voted.

The incumbent, Johnson Asiedu Nketsia obtained 6,642 votes while 7 votes were rejected.
