Ghana is set to engage the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to support its economic program.

“This follows a telephone conversation between the President and the IMF Manageing Director, Mike Kristalina Georgieva, conveying Ghana’s decision to engage with the Fund,” a statement issued by the Information Ministry said on Friday, July 1.

The statement signed by Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, said Cabinet has also indicated support for the decision.

Government said it expects the IMF engagement to support efforts to quicken Ghana’s build back in the face of challenges brought about by Covid-19 and the Russia-Ukraine crises.

Ghana received the equivalent of US$1 billion from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), being its share of the new Special Drawing Rights (SDRs) allocation to boost the post-COVID economic recovery of member countries last year.
