Government has announced plans to merge the Ghana Institute of Journalism, the Ghana Institute of Languages and the National Film and Television Institute, NAFTI into a Single University.
The Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta announced this when he delivered the 2019 budget in Accra last week.
Speaking to GBC’s Radio Ghana, Vice President of UTAG, University of Ghana, Dr. Samuel Nkunban said with the increased number of students currently at the Senior High School level, what government needs to do is to resource existing universities to absorb them when they graduate rather than consolidating three major institutions in Communication into a single university.
Dr. Nkunban also believes such a move by government will create more unemployment in the country.
He advised government to take a second look at the decision.
