The Tamale Technical University, TATU, has been sighted to have breached the procurement law.
To this end, the Public Accounts Committee, PAC, has referred the University to the Attorney General for further investigation and prosecution.
Chairman of PAC, James Klutse Avedzi, said Parliament has been so lenient on Institutions and public office holders who continue to breach procurement processes.
Speaking to journalists after the first day of the Committee’s hearing in Tamale, Mr. Avedzi said holding public officers accountable to face the law will make them sit up for judicious utilisation of government resources.
The first day of the Committee’s sitting saw Wa, Bolgatanga and Tamale Technical Universities taking turns to account for their procurements and expenditures in 2019.
The Public Accounts Committee observed that infractions among the three Institutions are systemic problems and that processes and systems being applied needs some improvements.
PAC further noted that some recommendations spelt out by staff of the Auditor General to these Institutions were duly followed and applied.
Chairman of PAC, James Klutse Avedzi acknowledged some improvements in the procurement process in 2019 compared to 2018 by the various Technical Universities.
He said PAC aims at improving upon the system by making public offices account for their spending.
Mr Avedzi indicated that the Tamale Technical University went against some of its methods of procurement, therefore it was sited to have breached the law.
He said whoever is found culpable will be recommended to the Attorney General for appropriate action to be taken.
Mr Avedzi said some of the infractions can be pardoned but when it comes to issues of procurement breaches, institutions found culpable will face the law.
The various Colleges of Education will take turns at the Committee’s hearing today, August 9, 2022.
