The President’s visit was informed by recent upsurge in illegal mining across all districts amid wanton destruction of the environment particularly water bodies and cocoa farms, as well as and alleged involvement of some chiefs and government officials. The tempo of the fight appears to be slowing down.

Addressing the members of the National House of Chiefs before a close door meeting, the president was optimistic that with commitment and dedication from all, the fight shall be won.

He told another meeting with the MMDCES of areas where the galamsey menace is on the increase before a close door meeting that government has not relaxed.

He said the President alone cannot fight and win the war unless all hands are religiously brought on board.

He said the allegations against persons involved in illegal mining shall be offered the opportunity to respond to them before final decision is taken.
