Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia today October 7, 2022 hosted cured lepers from the Weija Leprosarium at his residence as he celebrates his 59th birthday.
Dr. Bawumia who is noted for his generosity towards the needy, as well as his special affection for the vulnerable in the society especially lepers was joined by some Members of Parliament, government officials, family and friends to mark his birthday.
Vice President Bawumia in a brief remark expressed gratitude God for the gift of life.
He said he has lots of interest in the less privilege in the society, hence, his desire to always celebrate his birthday with the Lepers. He called on the public to always extend a helping and accept them with open arms.
This is the 3rd consecutive time the Vice President has hosted the lepers at his residence. Vice President Bawumia in 2017 voluntarily offered himself as a patron of the Lepers Society to assist them and also show others that they are cured and harmless.
As a life Patron of the Lepers Aid Ghana and an advocate of cured Lepers, the Vice President has over the years been supporting them with donations and championing the agenda to improve general well-being of the vulnerable and excluded in society.
Vice President Bawumia called for attention and care for people living with leprosy and also urged all to ”stop discrimination against people living with the disease”.
On behalf of Metropolitan Municipal and District Chief Executives, the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Henry presented a gift to the Vice President. Mr Quartey had some birthday wishes for the celebrant.
The Vice President in the company of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Shirley Ayorkor Botchway, Ambassador Isaac Osei and Dr Boadi Nyamekye among other dignitaries served lunch to the Lepers.
