The President of Breast Care International, Dr. Mrs. Beatrice Wiafe Addai has attributed the increasing rate of breast cancer partly to lack of education and public awareness.
According to her, most institutions and NGO’s have made efforts to educate the public on breast cancer, but its increasing rate shows that the awareness creation and public education is still low.
Dr. Wiafe Addai expressed these concerns at the first anniversary of one of Garden City Television’s flagship programmes, ‘’Lawyer Me Haw Nie’’ at the Ashanti regional Office of GBC in Kumasi.
There was also a free breast screening exercise for women who attended the programme. More than 200 widows and the aged benefited from the free breast screening exercise. It was done under the auspices of Breast Care International and Rabito Clinic.
Dr. Mrs. Beatrice Wiafe Addai said statistics available show a yearly increase of cancer-related diseases leading to many deaths especially among women – a situation she said does not look good. She said the treatment of the disease is also expensive.
In a speech read on his behalf, the Ashanti Regional Director of GBC, Sam Kwatia assured the public of GBC’c commitment to continue supporting programmes for their benefit.
