Many Ghanaians on social media have reacted to calls for President Akufo-Addo to remove the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, from office.
The Majority MPs in Parliament say this could help restore confidence in the Ghanaian economy.
Addressing the media in Parliament on Tuesday, October 25, the spokesperson for the group, Andy Appiah-Kubi, who is the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Member of Parliament for Asante Akim North, said they “will not do business with the government if the president fails to heed their call”.
Some Majority Members of Parliament have also called for the Minister of State at the ministry, Charles Adu Boahen to be removed from office as well.
Meanwhile, the Minority is also urging their counterparts in the Majority Caucus to throw their weight behind the motion to garner the two-thirds majority of 183 MPs needed to push for the Finance Minister’s removal.
Prior to that, some notable personalities and citizens have also written open letters to the Finance Minister asking him to resign amidst the economic challenges.
This development has sent shockwaves through social media as users raced to share their opinions.
Taking to Twitter, some Ghanaians shared varied opinions about the call.

I believe in all honesty that Ken Ofori Atta had good intentions for this country. Unfortunately we missed certain key decision at certain times.

The majority caucus (NPP MPs) say they will not do any government business until Ken Ofori Atta is fired as Finance Minister. The frog is out of the water saying the crocodile is smelling. If President @NAkufoAddo doesn’t listen to this last call, then he’s worse than a dead goat

As usual, #KenMustGo is just a camouflage to divert the anger and energy of the youth. The next Finance minister will work in the same leadership and system. We should be smart enough to lead a charge beyond this – a constitution review, institutional accountability…stay woke!!! https://t.co/TFQg1ef9Il

I don’t get the point of #KenMustGo.
Ken is functioning the way his boss expects him to. He was just announced as top 5 best performing ministers by the president
The person who hired him and said he’s doing a good job is the one who must go.#NanaAddoMustGo

Honestly, I don’t believe Ken Ofori Atta should resign now. We should be patient for him to finish the IMF deal, then after that he can resign. Because, I believe he can get a good deal for Ghanaians.

Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta must go.
In compliance with Article 82 of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana, the NDC Caucus in Parliament has successfully filed a motion for his immediate removal.
