Ashie Moore wins Greater Accra NDC Chairmanship race

A former Member of Parliament (MP) for the Adentan Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, Mr. Emmanuel Nii Ashie Moore has been elected as the Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Mr. Ashie Moore in his second attempt for the NDC Chairmanship position polled 327 votes to topple the incumbent Chairman, Mr. Joseph Ade Coker who beat Mr. Ashie Moore to that position during their last regional executive elections held at the University of Ghana managed to poll only 222 votes to emerged third in Sunday’s regional executives’ election held at the Tema Sports Stadium.

Ahead of the elections, Ade Coker who was so sure of winning the 2022 regional elections had assured of annexing NDC’s lost seats in Parliament if he was retained as the Greater Accra Regional Chairman but, the two-term Regional Chairman for the Greater Accra Branch of the NDC could not fly on the day which matters most.

The incumbent Secretary, Mr. Theophilus Tetteh Chaie, also a former MP for the Ablekuma Central Constituency in the Greater Accra Region during the Sixth Parliament of the Fourth Republic, was overwhelmingly retained.

He polled 719 votes to beat his only contender, Mr. Victor Quarshie Adonoo, who polled 28.

Meanwhile, Madam Patricia Naa Akuyea Addy polled 480 votes to emerge as the Deputy Secretary.

Mr. Anthony Nukpenu, the incumbent regional Organiser was retained to serve a third term with Mr. Gambo Abdulai getting the nod as the Deputy Organiser.

Mr. Jerry Johnson and Simon Kweku Tetteh were elected the Communication Officer and deputy Communication Officer of the party for Greater Accra respectively.

The Treasurer and deputy treasurer positions went to Mohammed Norga and Kennedy Hedo respectively.

Mr. William Vinyo and Ibrahim Jajah will serve as the two vice chairpersons.

The Regional Women’s and Youth Organizer elections, held on the 8th of November 2022 saw the incumbent regional Women’s Organiser retaining her position with 46 votes. While Evelyn Dodzi and Jessica Patience Braimah were elected first and second Deputy Women’s Organizers.

On the youth front, Mr. Amos Amorse Blessing polled 85 votes to beat Mr. Solomon Nii Afutu who polled just 24 to grab the regional Youth Organiser slot.

Mohammed Judah and Gideon Hammond were elected for the two Deputy Youth Organiser positions.

Mr. Ismaila Horoya Ali, the Incumbent Zongo Caucus Coordinator was also retained with 411 votes.
