2023 Budget Statement: Fuel Allocations to Political Appointees Reduced by 50%

Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta has in the 2023 Budget Statement directed a fifty percent reduction in fuel allocations to all political appointees effective January 2023.

Speaking in Parliament, the Finance Minister stated that the directive is a step toward expenditure rationalization.

“All MDAs, MMDAs, and SOEs are directed to reduce fuel allocations to Political appointees and heads of MDAs, MMDAs, and SOEs by 50%. This directive applies to all methods of fuel allocation including coupons, electronic cards, chit systems, and fuel depots,” he added.

He added that 50% of the 2022 budget allocation for fuel will be reallocated to other businesses for the Assemblies.

“Accordingly, 50% of the previous year’s (2022) budget allocation for fuel shall be earmarked for official business about MDAs, MMDAs, and SOEs”.

Speaking to the Media after the Budget Statement, Deputy Finance Minister, Abena Osei Asare commended the government for showing exemplary leadership toward rescuing the economy.
