Ghana’s dream of being the first African country to make it to at least the semi-finals of a FIFA World Cup was cut short when Suarez held Asamoah Gyan‘s striking shot from entering the net twelve years ago.
It appears many Ghanaians cannot shake off this dramatic event on July 2, 2010, at the Soccer City stadium in Johannesburg leading to the elimination of the Black Stars.
Fate has brought the two rival teams to one group and Ghana will play against Uruguay today at 3 pm GMT at the Al Janoub stadium.
However, Sports Analyst, Abigail Sena Sosu has bet to differ from Many Ghanaians who expect a “do or die” battle from the Black Stars as revenge, stating that she does not like the conversation around revenge.
She argued that the veteran La Celeste of Uruguay player, Suarez did wrong in Ghana but it was the Black stars who failed to take their chances.
“We were so drawn on what Suarez did that we didn’t check the center referee and linesmen. That ball was a goal even before Suarez raised his hand … fast forward you were given a penalty. That’s for you to take. I’m not attacking Asamoah Gyan and you didn’t do it. But truthfully Suarez did nothing” she stated.
Speaking on the GTV Breakfast Show, she added that the current Black Stars have an upper hand over Uruguay based on their ability to upset South Korea putting them second to Portugal on the group stage with Uruguay at the bottom at the Qatar 2022 World Cup.
She also encouraged the Black Stars to focus on winning to make it to the next stage.
