The Black Stars of Ghana have been eliminated from the FIFA World Cup in Qatar after being defeated by Old time rivals Uruguay by two goals to nil. All the goals were scored in the first half by Uruguay’s Giorgian de Arrascaeta scoring their first goal when he connected with his head from a cross from the left flank.
Uruguay doubled its lead with Giorgian de Arrascaeta scoring again in the 32nd minute. Captain of the side, Dede Ayew, missed a penalty after the Uruguayan keeper was deemed to have brought down a Black Stars player in the box.
The resultant kick was squandered, as the goalkeeper guessed right, Dede’s penalty.
Uruguay’s two goals came within a span of six minutes and put them in control of the match.
According to BBC Sport’s Shamoon Hafez inside the Al Janoub Stadium in Qatar, “Ghana looked absolutely shell-shocked after those two Uruguay goals.”
He believes the missed penalty sapped all the confidence out of the Black Stars.
According to the BBC reporter, the former Barca and Atletico Madrid forward Luiz Suarez had a field day tormenting Ghana. One supporter believes Ghana spent far too much time talking about 2010 and not focusing on the job at hand.
