Beatrice Senadju of GBC wins MCBIRD Disability Journalist of the Year Award

GBC News’ multiple Award-Winning Broadcast Journalist, Beatrice Senadju has been adjudged the JOURNALIST OF THE YEAR 2022 FOR DISABILITY REPORTING IN GHANA.

She received the award at the end of a two-day media workshop dubbed Media Capacity Building Initiative for Reporting on Disability (MCBIRD) at Takoradi in the Western Region on Friday, December 2, 2022.

MCBIRD is an initiative by the Young Africa Media Center in collaboration with United State Embassy in Ghana, Arizona State University (U.S.A) and the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) which seeks to build the capacity of journalists to report accurately on disability.

In all, twenty Journalists were selected from across the country to be trained on disability reporting.

All twenty Journalists received citations of honour for their contribution towards disability reporting. Beatrice Senadju emerged the overall winner while while Ivan Heathcote -Fumador of EIB network also picked the award for the Journalist Living with Disability category.

In an interview, Miss Beatrice Senadju dedicated the AWARD AND CITATION OF HONOUR to persons living with disabilities and all vulnerable groups in Ghana, especially to the physically challenged persons who willingly shared their unique stories with her to put together compelling documentaries.

“Our greatest tool as Journalists is the pen and we must use it to benefit the vulnerable in society. We must rise above the challenges and be the voice of the voiceless in society. It is time we concentrate on impactful journalism to remove all the ills in the country”. She said.

On the occasion of World Disability Day, on December 2, Miss Senadju called on colleague journalists to highlight the abilities of Persons living with disabilities.

“It is time we deepen the ink on inclusion and equal access for persons with disabilities”, she posited.

Beatrice Senaju is also a multiple Ghana Journalists Association, GJA Award Winner. At the recently held Awards on 12th November 2022 she won the Best Journalist in Domestic Tourism Reporting at the 26th GJA Awards in Accra.
