The People’s National Convention party (PNC), has expressed worry about the increasing lack of care for the aged particularly old women in the country.
The party has observed that, an increasing number of old people across the country, live in poverty, poor health, in some instances they are labeled as witches and neglected by society.
In an interview with GBC News in Gambaga, the General Secretary of the party, Janet Asana Nabila urged the government to establish Elderly People’s Homes across the sixteen regions to provide care for the aged.
She was addressing the inmates of the Gambaga Old People’s Home on Wednesday, December 28, 2022. The PNC organised a Christmas party for inmates as part of the Party’s efforts to show compassion and draw attention to the plight of the aged in the country.
The initiative was under the theme, “showing compassion and love to the vulnerable aged, a collective responsibility.
”The General Secretary, said it is unacceptable for a nation that prides itself of the rule of law to subject a section of its Population to such indignity.
She urged the government to pay attention to the needs of the elderly by establishing homes for the aged across the sixteen regions of the country.
“The PNC is calling on the government to build old people’s homes in the sixteen regions of the country to help the aged who have no one to cater for them,” she emphasized.
