President Akufo-Addo has intervened in the disciplinary action taken against eight students of the Chiana Senior High School by the Ghana Education Service, GES.

A statement dated 13th January 2023, indicated that President Akufo Addo has directed the Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum to ask the GES to look for another disciplinary measure to deal with the students rather than dismissal.

This comes after GES dismissed the students of the Chiana Senior High School in the Kassena-Nankana West District of the Upper East Region for making derogatory comments against President Akufo-Addo.

When news of the dismissal of the students broke, many Ghanaians including stakeholders in the educational value chain condemned the act by the students, but however appealed to the GES to allow the students back into the classroom, noting that the dismissal was rather harsh.

The students have since pleaded for clemency.
