Anti-Corruption Campaigner, Vitus Azeem says the special audit carried out by the Auditor-General on COVID-19 transactions, which revealed procurement breaches and flagrant abuse of the Ghana Information Financial Management Integrated System, GIFMIS, vindicates the Minority in Parliament, which consistently called for a bipartisan inquiry into the COVID-19 expenditure.
He noted that such irregularities exist as a result of the lack of commitment of the Executive to deal with the challenges head-on. He described the situation as regrettable, noting that people take advantage of the situation to enrich themselves rather than serve the nation.
Speaking to GBC News, Mr. Azeem said the gravity of the infraction is enough for the Auditor-General to surcharge.
