Clinical Psychologist and Lecturer at Methodist University College Ghana, Professor Daniel Bruce, has opined that the government should introduce a fire tax in place of the COVID tax to generate revenue to equip the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).

According to him, the revenue generated from the fire tax can be used to buy helicopters to fight fires in tall buildings.

“When the water is pumped from the helicopter hose, it will not suffer from the force of gravity and not get there,” he explained on the GTVBreakfast Show.”

He made this statement on the back of the increasing incidents of fire outbreaks in the country.

According to the GNFS, the Ashanti regional capital, Kumasi, recorded the highest incidents of 178 fires with six deaths in January 2023.

He added that the fire tax initiative if implemented, will help prevent the loss of lives.
