Today marks the first day of the International Shipping Conference in Ghana: “Unlocking Opportunities for Green Shipping in Africa”.
The conference identifies strategies on how African countries can contribute to the negotiations of International Maritime Organization – IMO regulation and take advantage of opportunities to become part of the global green transition of the shipping sector.
It also presents an opportunity to enhance interregional dialogue.
The Secretary General of IMO – Kitack Lim, Ghana’s Minister for Transport – Kwaku Ofori Asiamah, Director General of the Ghana Maritime Authority – Thomas Kofi Alonsi, were among the key speakers at the opening session.
Seventeen (17) African states, with over 150 participants from international organisations, private companies and regulators in the maritime sector, renowned industry players, diplomatic missions from the European Union in Ghana, United Nations, ECOWAS and beyond are participating in the conference.
