The Medical Director and Ophthalmologist at Dziram Eye Clinic, Dr. Charles Mensah Cofie, disclosed that diabetes and hypertension can result in blurred vision.

He made this known during a discussion on the GTV Breakfast Show. He said that this can happen when there is bleeding behind the eyes in someone with these underlying medical conditions. He added that one may not know they have blurred vision because they may think that’s the normal way everyone sees until they cannot see beyond a distance and they have their eyes checked.

He said blurred vision can also occur when there is prolonged rubbing of the eyes; the “lids” of the eyes are likely to become blurred as time goes on. He further added that rubbing of the eyes is not healthy because it can be a result of allergies, and one must seek medical attention.

He also noted that women and children get their eyes checked more regularly than men. He urged everyone from the age of twenty years to have their eyes checked against any eye problem to prevent further complications. He added that people with this underlined medical issues should follow their doctors’ advice and desist from buying eye drops without a prescription.

He concluded by saying that early detection can help to correct blurred vision and encourage everyone to eat a balanced diet rich in “Vitamin A”.
