African-American entrepreneur and investor, Rashad McCrorey has called on Africans to break the stereotype that it is only white cops in America who infringe on the freedom and rights of Black Americans.
According to him, injustice against Black Americans is also being perpetuated by Black police officers.
He recounted how he was arrested by Black police officers on his way to a party after having received his first paycheck from his new job. He mentioned resisting arrest and fleeing from a street fight as some of the charges pressed against him after his unlawful arrest.
“They requested my ID and I pulled out my ID, but they said it was too late. They grabbed my arms, twisted me around, and threw me on the floor”, Mr. McCrorey shared his experience with Kafui Dey on the GTV Breakfast Show.
Speaking on the plight of Black Americans in America, Mr. McCrorey said, “We have this stereotype that only White cops who do this. I’m on record on ABC World News discussing that I don’t trust black cops in America either”.
Born in Harlem, New York, Mr. McCrorey currently lives in Ghana and serves as the tourism chief of Iture in the Central region, Nana Kofi Kukudrufo I. He is also the owner of Africa Cross-Culture, a tourism company that specializes in organizing trips to African countries.
He entreated Ghanaians to consider cultural differences and be patient with Black Americans.
“It is not easy but sometimes I ask certain Ghanaians to exercise some level of patience when it comes to Black Americans because we are coming from a European country that marginalizes us”, he passionately appeals.
