The Judicial Service has inaugurated the first ever Child Friendly Court in the country. The court set aside for the adjudication of matters related to children equipped with child friendly facilities to reduce anxiety and stress of children who are at the centre of cases as victims or witnesses.
The Chief Justice noted that strengthening child friendly facilities at all stages of the judicial process increases the rate of successful prosecution. It also encourages children and families to report violations and also cooperate throughout the process. Madam Akufo said the judicial service is in the process of replicating the project in 9 other courts in the other regions.
Speaking at the inauguration, the Chief Justice Sophia Akufo said the special court was instituted to recognise and accommodate the developmental and emotional needs of children and to ensure that they are not over burdened with the trauma of going through the judicial process.
