A massive fire has engulfed the recently constructed Kejetia Market in Kumasi.

The inferno gutted parts of the market on Thursday, March 15, 2023.

The extent of the damage is currently unknown, as the fire is still being fought by personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).

At this point, it is unclear whether there are any casualties resulting from the incident.

GBC News correspondent, Nicholas Osei-Owusu, reporting from the Ashanti region, revealed that the GNFS was present at the scene and working tirelessly to combat the flames. It remains unclear what triggered the outbreak, which has left traders and the general public in shock and despair.

The Kejetia Market is an open-air market in the city of Kumasi, the capital of Ashanti and the largest market in the West African sub-region.
