Within hours of the first day of its one-month revenue mobilization exercise, the Electricity Company of Ghana, ECG, recouped about 18.5 million Cedis from Parliament and Ghana Airport Company.

According to ECG, the 18.5 billion Cedis is a drop in the ocean as the Company intends to collect 5.7 billion Cedis debt owed by customers across its operational areas.

The National Task Force is targeting State Owned Enterprises and Industries while the regional and district teams attend to customers in their jurisdictions.

The headquarters team led by the External Communications Manager at the ECG, Laila Abubakari, first visited Parliament House.

The legislature owed the power distributor 13.2 million Cedis and made payment of 8.5 million Cedis in cheque.

The next point of call was the Ghana Airport Company. The company owed 28 million Cedis in Arrears and was able to settle 10 million Cedis and the remaining 18 million cedis to be paid in a week. Last year, the Airport Company owed 48 million Cedis and paid 20 million.

The Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, GBC was served notice to settle its arrears.

The External Communications Manager of ECG, Laila Abubakari said the State Agencies have been given 48 hours to honour their debt or will be disconnected.

Madam Abubakari said the 18.5 million Cedis recoup from Parliament and the Ghana Airport Company is woefully inadequate.

She is optimistic that more revenues will be collected before the end of the exercise. ECG intends to update the public on revenues collected during the exercise.
