The trial of the CEO of Menzgold Ghana Limited, Nana Appiah Mensah, popularly known as NAM 1, has again been adjourned to April 25.
The trial, which is yet to begin, has suffered several adjournments due to the prosecution’s request for more time. NAM 1 was first arraigned before an Accra Circuit Court on July 12, 2019, and has made more than thirty appearances in court.
ASP Emmanuel Haliga, who held a brief for Superintendent Sylvester Asare, informed the Court that the prosecution is still awaiting advice from the Attorney General’s office on the way forward.
Lawyers for NAM1 at one point prayed to the Court to strike out the charges against him if the prosecution was not ready for the trial.
He is facing 61 charges, including defrauding by false pretences with his plea yet to be taken. He is alleged to have taken various sums of money, amounting to one point six billion cedis, from his customers. He was granted bail in the sum of GH¢1 billion cedis with five sureties, three to be justified, on July 26, 2019.
He is alleged to have convinced customers of Menzgold to invest in a gold purchase scheme with ten percent monthly interest.
