The Director General of Public Relations of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), Brigadier General Eric Aggrey-Quashie has disclosed that the intervention of the military in crime related activities does not demand respect since their mode of operation is different from the Police.
According to him, the brutal method which army officers use in dealing with criminals is to help segregate the real culprits from the innocent ones.
Brigadier General Aggrey-Quashie who was speaking at the National Public Relations Summit and Annual General Meeting at Kwahu-Nkwatia in the Eastern Region, indicated that his outfit has however being commended by some quarters for the Ashaiman invasion which was a no go area and notorious for many criminal activities.
This, he added has helped to bring sanity within the Ashaiman enclave.
“I am not defending or justifying our actions but the number of calls that I have received and the institutions have received thanking us for what we did. They keep asking us when we will do it again because when you live within that enclave and could not go out at certain times of the day, you will appreciate”.
The Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications, Kenneth Ashigbey speaking on the theme of the programme “Staying Credible through Rough Patches” observed that the neglect of communication in the country is one of the key crises facing the country.
Hence, he noted that the constant engagement and information sharing during the COVID-19 pandemic helped the country to properly manage the situation.
He further indicated that the fear of the unknown and the public reaction contributed to non-sharing of information by the government on the domestic debt exchange programme.
Mr. Ashigbey thus underscored the importance of communicators in packaging themselves well to help enhance the value of information that is disseminated to the public.
