The Supreme Court has set May 17 for judgment in a suit challenging the eligibility of restrained MP for Assin North, James Gyakye Quayson in contesting as a Parliamentarian in the 2020 elections.

A resident of Assin Breku, Michael Ankomah-Nimfah brought the suit against Mr. Gyakye Quayson urging the court to declare his election as MP, invalid.

Mr. Nimfah wants a declaration that upon a true and proper interpretation of Article 94(2)(a) of the Constitution, at the time of filing his nomination to contest the Assin North seat, he was not eligible because he held dual citizenship.

The Electoral Commission and the Attorney-General have joined the suit.

The Court adopted the separate Memorandum of Issues filed by the plaintiff and the defendant for evaluation and a final determination of the case.

The Court said it will strike out issues it considers irrelevant or inappropriate.
