The Tamale branch of the Universal Merchant Bank (UMB), has presented a cheque of twenty thousand Ghana cedis (20,000) to the Dagbon Development Fund as the bank’s contribution towards the development of Dagbon.
The branch Manager for UMB, Alhassan Abdulai, presented the cheque to the Overlord of Dagbon Ya Naa Abukari Mahama at the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi in the Northern region.
The Manager explained that, as a business operating in the Dagbon, the bank considers the socio-economic development of its customer base as critical to its operations and will therefore contribute its quota towards projects that enhances opportunities for its public.
The Dagbon Development Fund was launched in March 2023 to aise an initial capital of one hundred and fifty million cedis for the reconstruction and modernisation of the Gbewaa Palace among other initiatives in Dagbon.
So far, various institutions and individuals have made contributions towards the fund, with the UMB being the latest to do so. The Branch Manager also used the opportunity to introduce himself to the Overlord and to seek his blessing as he takes over his new position in the Northern region.
He was accompanied by some staff of the bank including Daniel Ogyansah. The Ya Naa, through his spokesperson, Yakubu Musah, commended the bank for the donation and assured the bank of his support in their operations.
