Minority Leader and Member of Parliament (MP) for Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, has called for a serious discussion on difficulties facing local banks and how they can be supported to weather the storm.

In a statement, the Minority Leader said it is no secret that many of these banks, which are essential to supporting Small and Medium-sized Enterprises, SMEs, in the country, are facing severe financial difficulties.

Dr Ato Forson, former Deputy Finance Minister under the erstwhile Mahama Administration, said the government has implemented policies that have eroded the capital of most of the local banks.

That, he said, is having a devastating effect on the banks’ ability to lend to businesses, create jobs, and contribute to the growth of the economy.
