A man armed with a knife has stabbed four pre-school children in a playground in France. Two adults were also injured, in the town of Annecy in the French alps.
Some of the victims are in critical condition. One of the victims is Dutch, and another injured child is British.
The police say the attacker was a 31-year-old Syrian man with refugee status in Sweden.
A local prosecutor, Line Bonnet-Mathis, said there was no apparent terrorist motive.
UPDATE: Injured children currently seem stable – mayor
The Annecy mayor has told French broadcaster BFM TV that children are “out of the operating room” following this morning’s attack.
François Astorg is quoted on the BFM TV website saying: “For the moment, their condition seems stable.”
An adult remained in surgery, he added.
