Assistant Public Relations Officer for the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association, Mr. Philemon Agyapong has justified the migration of trained nurses out of the country to seek greener pastures abroad.

According to him,  nurses in Ghana are not treated fairly as they work under harsh conditions.

“I don’t think nurses and Midwives in this country are unpatriotic ”, Mr. Agyapong reiterated.

In a series of scenarios to express the poor condition of nurses and midwives, Mr. Agyapong alleged that they are yet to receive the insurance the government promised to pay them during the Covid era.

He also alleged that nurses and Midwives are made to pay for receiving treatment from hospitals they work.

”Look at what happened in Covid, in fact the nurses that got infected are quite a good number. Ask me whether the government paid the promise insurance. We didn’t receive that…some nurses are suffering from post exposure complications. Some cannot walk far, some cannot climb staircases ” he explained.

Meanwhile, reports from the Pantang Hospital reveal that 150 experienced nurses and other health professionals vacated their post for other lucrative offers abroad in the past six years.

Another data from BBC desk shows that over 120 nurses joined that UK register in 2022.
