The 2020 Vice Presidential nominee for the National Democratic Congress, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has, on Wednesday, joined the executives of the NDC party, to throw their weight behind Mr. James Gyakye Quayson, as preparations towards the Assin North by-election gather momentum.
The embattled former National Democratic Congress Member of Parliament for Assin North, Mr. James Gyakye Quayson, is seeking re-election, following the Supreme Court’s decision to declare his election; as a Member of Parliament for the area as unconstitutional.
In a statement, on Thursday, June 1, 2023, Mr. Quayson appealed to the people of Assin North to turn out in their numbers to vote for him in the upcoming by-election.
Garnering suport for Mr. Quayson, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang engaged the Women’s wing of the NDC, in Assin Breku, Assin Kushia, Assin Odumase and Assin Akonfodi communities. She urged them to propagate the achievements of the party, to make it attractive to win votes, not only for Mr. Quayson in the June 27 by-election, but also for the formidable NDC in the 2024 general elections. She also entreated the women to work assiduously to achieve that feat.
“Our party has a story to tell citizens of the prudent policies, pragmatic programmes, and numerous social interventions achieved by our government to alleviate the sufferings of the people, we must not be complacent but intensify our campaigns on our achievements”, she stressed.
While engaging traders, market women, beauticians, hairdressers, seamstresses, widows and the aged, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang entreated the people to vote massively for Mr. Gyakye Quayson to continue the development projects he started in the area following his victory in 2020 as the MP for the area.
“This is the time for you to choose productive change, by voting for a people-centered government and desist from following anybody’s propaganda. A vote for James Gyakye Quayson in this by-election is an indication of infrastructural development” she emphasized.
The Electoral Commission has set Tuesday, June 27, 2023, for the by-election, following the nullification of the election of James Gyakye Quayson by the Supreme Court.
The National Democratic Congress is poised to reclaim the constituency seat on June 27, 2023.
