The Musahamat Banana Farm in Aveyime and the Treasure Island Hotel have had their power supply disconnected. This is as a result of their indebtedness to the Electricity Company of Ghana, ECG.

The Musahamat Banana Farm owes ECG an amount of GH¢219,184 while Treasure Island Hotel owes GH¢379,775. The Farm Business falls under the Ada District of the Tema Region of ECG.

In an interview with GBC-News, the Tema Regional Public Relations Officer of the ECG, Mary Sakyiwaa Mensah, said the disconnection forms part of the ongoing revenue mobilization by the Electricity Company of Ghana, dubbed “Operation Zero”.

The Electricity Company of Ghana on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, begun a two month campaign to ensure that no customer is indebted to the Company.

Due to this, the Company has deployed most of its staff on the field for the Operation Zero Campaign to ensure debts are paid, meters monitored for integrity as well as check on other ECG installations as they educate customers on ECG going cashless and the use of its mobile app.

Ms. Mensah noted that it is the intention of the ECG that once customers have consumed electricity, they must be ready to pay for it.

She mentioned that the Aveyime Irrigation has also been disconnected over a debt of GH¢63,801 while the Ada Technical Institute has also been disconnected over its GH¢71,102 Ghana Cedis indebtedness to the ECG.

The Tema Regional Officer of the ECG stated that though a chunk of its staff is on the field, a lean number of staff are available in all offices, ”overseeing to customers who may visit the offices for additional services”.
