One person is reported dead following an armed robbery attack on a VIP passenger bus travelling from Kumasi through Tamale to Bolgatanga.

The robbers on Friday dawn attacked the VIP bus that was in front of an O.A. bus in Walewale Township, very close to the Vice President’s family house area in the North East Region.

Many people are said to be wounded and have been taken to the Walewale Hospital for treatment.

The Municipal Police Command has dispatched police personnel to the scene, who have moved the passengers to the police station.

“As the car was moving, we suddenly heard gunshots at close intervals, and the bus then stopped. The armed robbers crossed in front of the car, while others were at the far front and back of the vehicle. They shot carelessly into the bus, killing one woman instantly and injuring many others,” a passenger narrated to GBC News.

Another passenger recounted, “we were all lying down and praying amidst the gunshots until they left us and run away. But they didn’t take anything from us.

The police arrived later and took us to the Walewale Municipal Police Headquarters where we are all currently waiting to be transferred and sent to our destinations.”
