The Director General of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, GBC, Professor Amin Alhassan says there is currently no freeze on promotions at the State Broadcaster.

According to him, the only challenge is inadequate vacancies. His answer follows a question asked by the Chairman of PAC, Dr James Klutse Avedzi, on why they had frozen the staff promotion process at the Corporation.

“We haven’t put a freeze on promotions. They are based on vacancies available. Before you promote to any level, there must be existing vacancies” Professor Amin Alhassan said.

He said this when he appeared before the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament (PAC), on Friday, July 21, 2023.

He said although there is a break in promotion from Manager to Senior Manager, it is only for a year.

The Director General said there is an ongoing review of the Scheme of Service and the Organogram of the Corporation and that has affected the promotion process hence, the board’s decision to halt the process because existing vacancies cannot be confirmed.

He assured the Committee and affected staff of the Corporation that once the Scheme of Service is completed and approved, the promotion process will resume.
