Veteran journalists Yaw Boadu Ayeboafo and Francis Kokutse have encouraged journalists to focus on facts in their reportage. They said it is paramount for journalists to draw the line between facts and opinions in order to give their audiences a better understanding of issues.
The two journalists said this when they appeared on GBC’s Current Affairs programme, the Roundtable, as part of activities to mark the Corporation’s 88th anniversary.
Mr. Ayeboafo, who doubles as the Chairman of the National Media Commission (NMC), congratulated the GBC on its anniversary and wished the Corporation well in all endeavours.
Speaking on the topic “Journalism beyond the Headlines”, Mr. Ayeboafo asked journalists to avoid sensationalism.
For his part, Ace Journalist Francis Kokutse also recounted his early days at GBC, which he said were short-lived. He said the tenets of newsmaking have not changed and encouraged journalists not to be vessels for ”spreading falsehood”.
