NASCO Tech and Eban Capital Limited have signed an agreement with the University of Ghana to raise funds and climax their 75th-anniversary celebration.
At the signing ceremony, Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, said the funds received will be used to augment development projects on campus.
She welcomed the partnership between NASCO and Eban Capital and urged them to sustain the development efforts of the school. She noted that as part of the 75th anniversary, a Students’ Experience Centre will be built for the welfare of the students.
“We wanted to have a legacy project, and after several deliberations,we settled on a student centre. In our day-to-day activities, we get bogged down, and we’re not always able to sustain the fundraising drive that we need for the projects that we have dreamed of, so we are happy to have this partnership with Eban and Nasco today,” she reiterated.
Chief Executive Director of NASCO Tech and NASCO Feeding Minds, Banasco Seidu Nuhu, said the company has invested in people and projects in the area of literacy for a decade. He said the company will raise $20 million to support the University of Ghana in its quest to build an ultramodern ICT facility and also provide a laptop for each student.
“For us, I think it’s a realisation of our potential; we did a similar partnership last year with the department of political science and established a computer centre and an E-learning centre. We are excited and very hopeful that after 2 years, the results of the relationship will encourage us to do more. We will work hard to ensure that this dream becomes a reality.”
For his part, Chief Executive Director of Eban Capital Limited, a company that helps raise funds for government and government agencies, Jim Amegah, said his company will collaborate with financial institutions to raise $100 million for the development of a digital infrastructure, lecture halls, and other projects for the University of Ghana.
The 5-year agreement, he noted, may be renewed later. “We realised that the Free SHS initiative has put pressure on the university, so there’s a need for infrastructure expansion, and this is one of the key interests: project financing. We’ll collaborate with government institutions to help raise these funds,” he said.
The University of Ghana’s 75th Anniversary was focused on Nurturing Resilience: Adopting Technology, Embracing Humanism.
The Anniversary Planning Committee called for one percent of GDP to support research. A fundraising agreement between the management of the University of Ghana and two Ghanaian-owned companies, NASCO Tech and Eban Capital, has taken place on the campus of the university.
The University of Ghana was founded on August 11, 1948, as the highest institution of the Republic of Ghana. It is one of the most influential universities in Africa and has trained a large number of high-quality talents. It is also known as the “cradle of Ghanaian politicians. As part of the year-long anniversary, high-profile lectures were organised, and a number of sporting activities took place.
