Mr Yaw Dabie Appiah Mensah, a leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Bono Region, has described Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the Vice President, as an “unmatched” Candidate.

In view of that, Mr Mensah stated he remained the biggest threat and a political “nightmare” for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Election 2024 and therefore implored the delegates to overwhelmingly endorse him.

The Party has set Saturday, August 26, 2023, for the super delegates’ election to elect five out of 10 presidential aspirants and followed it up with a National Delegates Conference scheduled for Saturday, November 4 this year for the election of the Party’s flagbearer from the remaining five for the Election 2024.

NPP balloting

Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Odumase in the Sunyani West Municipality, the 75-year-old former organiser of the NPP in the then Brong-Ahafo Region said “Dr Bawumia has over the years become too hot and difficult for the NDC to handle in the political space”.

“In fact, I can truly confirm insiders in the NDC see the vice president and the NPP’s presidential hopeful as a serious threat to the NDC’s political fortunes in the next general election,” Mr Mensah stated.

“That is why the delegates must endorse and allow him to lead the Party to retain political power; otherwise, breaking the eight would be extremely difficult for the Party.”

He said the honesty, integrity, excellent human relations, and religious tolerance exhibited by the Vice President had positioned him well and made him the choice of the majority of the Ghanaian electorate.

“In fact, the Vice President has already built and sustained his trust and confidence in the majority of the electorate, and he is a person our Party needs not to sell his credentials and integrity to the voting population because his proven track records are glaring for all to see,” Mr Mensah stated.

Other prominent figures in the NPP contesting for the Presidential Primaries include Mr Kennedy Agyapong, the Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Mr Kwabena Agyei Agyapong, a former General Secretary of the NPP, Mr Kwadwo Poku, an Energy Expert and Mr Alan Kyerematen, a former Trade and Industry Minister.

The rest are Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, a former Food and Agriculture Minister, Mr Boakye Agyarko, a former Energy Minister, Mr Edward Addai-Nimo, a former MP for Asante Mampong, Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku, an Economist and Mr Joe Ghartey, a former Minister for Railways and current Member of Parliament for Essikado-Ketan.
