Cabinet has approved a plan for the conversion of the Bono Regional Hospital in Sunyani into a teaching hospital and the establishment of a Medical School at the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR).
The Bono Regional Minister, Justina Owusu Banahene, who announced this at the 2023 First General Meeting of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs in Sunyani, said a technical committee has been instituted to prepare a road map for the rollout of the project and urged the chiefs to release lands to help make the vision a reality.
The first general meeting of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs has been held to review the activities of the past year and plan for the year ahead. This year’s edition saw the swearing-in of two new members to the house: the Omanhene of Wenchi, Osagyefo Ampem Anye Amoampong Tabrako, and the Omanhene of Kwawtoma Traditional Area, Osaberima Aseidu Kotwi.
Addressing the house, the President of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs, Osagyefo Oseadeyo Dr. Agyeman Badu, commended the government for the approval of plans to upgrade the Bono Regional Hospital and completion of the first phase of the rehabilitation of the Sunyani Airport.
He also announced the launch of a Bono Development Fund to accelerate development and help create jobs in the region. Osaagyefo Dr Agyeman Badu, however, expressed concern over chieftaincy disputes in the region.
The Bono Regional Minister, Justina Owusu Banahene said cabinet has approved a Memorandum of Understanding for the conversion of the Bono Regional Hospital in Sunyani into a teaching hospital and the establishment of a Medical hospital at University of Energy and Natural Resources and urged the chiefs to release land for the projects.
Justina Owusu Banahene expressed worry over cattle in forest reserves. She implored the chiefs to work in collaboration with the assemblies to ensure the beautification and sanity in the various districts of the Bono Region.
