The GBC Local Union of PSWU of TUC in Koforidua, the Eastern Regional Capital, has organised an election to elect new executives to lead the local union for the next four years. Before the election, the old executives, led by the Chairman, Frank Odei Anim, gave a report for the past four years that they had occupied the office.
In a speech, the Regional Director of GBC Sunrise FM, Joseph Adjei, encouraged the delegates to elect leaders who will work hard to put the management of the corporation in the region on their toes.
He also advised the Electoral Commission in charge of the Local Union elections to demonstrate free, fair, and transparent elections.
The National Youth Chairman of PSWU, who is also the New Juaben North Municipal Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Ebenezer Acheampong, serving as one of the officials of the election, urged delegates to elect leaders that are competent enough and devoted to the duties of the union and who will not leave everything in the hands of the chairman alone.
He also advocated for the election of executives who would always stand for the progress of the union at the local and national levels. The Eastern Regional Industrial Relations Officer, IRO, Edmund Kyeremeh, served as the Commissioner for the election and gave out the details of delegates that qualified to contest and could vote.
The positions contested to be voted for by the 41 qualified delegates included Chairman, Vice Chairman, Vice Chairperson-woman, Secretary, Assistant Secretary, First Trustee, Second Trustee, and Youth Officer.
Apart from the Chairmanship position, which was keenly contested by the incumbent Chairman, Frank Odei Anim, and Stephen Ampem Darko Koranteng, all the contestants for the various positions went unopposed.
By the end of the election, Mr. Odei Anim had retained the chairmanship position with 22 votes, with Mr. Ampem Darko Koranteng settling for 19 votes. The Vice Chairman went to George Awuah, the Vice Chairman-woman was occupied by Agnes Amoako, Gloria Afful took the Union Secretary position, and Priscilla Asante occupied the Assistant Secretary position. Madam Candida Dery emerged as the First Trustee while Michael Ohipeni got the Second Trustee with Benjamin Ameyaw retaining the position as Youth Officer. They were sworn into office by the Electoral Commission Officer of the local union election, Mr. Kyeremeh.
