Energy Commission partners GBC to promote education on energy issues

The Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, GBC and the Energy Commission have signed a partnership agreement to increase Energy Education in Ghana.

The Commission says it is excited to be leveraging its “Securing Ghana’s Energy Future Today agenda on GBC’s platform which is acclaimed as the Authentic and Trusted Voice of Ghana.

At the signing ceremony, the Executive Secretary of the Commission, Rev. Oscar Amonoo-Neizer said Ghana’s energy resources can be better managed when citizens are well-educated on energy-related issues.

He stated that the Commission’s efforts to promote efficient use of energy will be enhanced with the partnership.

“As part of our mandate as a Commission, we are to inform and educate the citizenry on energy matters. All growing and industrial nations have energy as a backbone. I think this partnership is in the right direction.” Rev. Oscar Amonoo-Neizer stated.

He hoped the partnership will not be a short-term programme but a long-term collaboration where the general public will be sensitized on energy issues.

He mentioned areas such as energy efficiency, renewable energy, local content and participation, electrical wiring as topics that will be focused on in the provision of contents to GBC.

Rev. Amonoo-Neizer hoped the partnership will lead to a change in the right direction to help Ghanaians to use energy resources judiciously.

The Acting Director of Television and Marketing at GBC Mr. George Lomotey said GBC is focusing on energy education because energy is critical to the development of the country.

He said GBC is mandated to educate and inform the about 30 million Ghanaians and it is aware of the essence of energy in the development of any economy hence the decision to get closer to the key stakeholders to push education on energy.

“Today we are signing a deal that sits clearly with the motivation of GBC which is to educate and inform Ghanaians and we want to do that with the right people.” Mr. George Lomotey narrates.

The Director of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency at the Energy Commission, Mr. Kofi Agyarko said reaching strategic stakeholders and target audience with information on energy will be enhanced with this partnership.

He said the Commission has done a lot and has a lot of success stories to share and it has plans for the future.

“GBC is a colossus in the media landscape, and if GBC is prepared to come along with us, I think that is the most pleasant thing that has happened to us and Ghanaians will hear a lot about the Energy Commission.” Mr. Kofi Agyarko stated.

The Ghana Broadcasting Corporation introduced the Energy News segment in its major news bulletins on GBCNEWS, GTV, GBC Radio and online.

The Corporation believes energy is key to the development of Ghana, hence the decision to focus reportage on the sector.

The partnership with the Energy Commission is to enhance energy education in the areas of regulating and managing the development and utilization of energy resources in Ghana.

The Energy Commission will assist the Energy News Desk with relevant information for dissemination to listeners, viewers and readers in the major News bulletins on TV, Radio and online.
