The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced tough regulations for its Presidential Primary slated for Saturday, November 4, 2023.

According to the party’s Presidential Elections Committee, chaired by former Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Professor Aaron Mike Oquaye, no gaps will be left for any breach of the regulations as it seeks to ensure strict adherence.

The Chairman of the Presidential Elections Committee told the media on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, after a meeting with the four aspirants and representatives.

“We have resolved a number of issues and requests made by the aspirants themselves.

Again, we have generally agreed that there will be nothing like camping of persons so that people will come freely and vote freely on this occasion,” he stressed.

According to him, the officials from the Electoral Commission were present even at the earlier meeting so that both parties will be able to iron out these formalities very clearly, and we don’t say one thing here and on the grounds they say something else is happening.

“And we are going to meet the police together with the EC official so that everybody sings from the same hymn book on that day,” Prof Oquaye hinted.

He added that no party official will have any influence, as voters will be made to visit constituencies and cast their ballots freely.

Prof Oquaye said matters of proxy will be resolved one month ahead of the exercise, and those found to have breached the rules may land in jail.

“In fact, we are streamlining and tightening the rules in such a way that at the end of the day the NPP will win, not any particular person because we will all rally behind that person and win power and break the eight,” he added.
