50 lives lost in fire outbreaks in 2022

Fifty lives were lost with 241 people sustaining various degrees of injuries due to fire outbreaks in 2022.

This worrying situation also saw about 64 million cedis lost in the over six thousand fire outbreaks recorded in the same year. It is for this reason that the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has made a clarion call to firefighters to deepen sensitization programs to educate the public on fire safety.

Speaking at the Graduation Parade of Ghana National Fire Service Cadet Course Intake 23 in Accra, Dr. Bawumia reiterated the government’s commitment to resource the Fire Service, announced that the current status quo will soon see even more improvement as two additional Fire Academy and Training Schools and a Fire College are under construction at Duayaw Nkwanta, Wungu and Kyebi.

The Graduation Parade of Ghana National Fire Service Cadet Course Intake 23 was made of Three Hundred and Thirty-nine Officers.

These include both direct intakes who fulfilled the enlistment criteria and serving officers who met the qualifications for advancement into Senior officer Corps.

The officers were taken through a 20-week intensive training at the Fire Academy and Training School and a 12-week attachment and fieldwork.

Vice-President Mahamudu Bawumia who was the Reviewing Officer
said the fight for fire safety is far from over, as it requires continuous attention and concerted efforts to consolidate the gains so far made and improve upon our achievements.

This he added would require the collective efforts of all and sundry by way of adherence to fire safety messages and practices to avoid the occurrence of what we all so much fear.

While congratulating the graduates, Vice President Bawumia assured the service of the government’s commitment to continue to provide logistics to help them deliver on their mandate.

The officers were taken through courses such as Fire Sciences, Fire Safety, Rescue Courses Administrative Procedures and Work ethics among others.

Officer Cadet Josephine Adoma Forson won the overall best award for excelling in all the courses and Training.

She received a plaque and a double-decker refrigerator.
