The Rebecca Foundation has donated assorted items to the Princess Marie Louise (Children’s) Hospital in Accra in support of the celebration of the yuletide by the children on admission.
The items, presented by the First Lady, Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo last Wednesday included bags of rice, biscuits, soft drinks and some toiletries.
The donation was to make the Christmas a memorable one for the children.
The donation was made during the annual Christmas party organised by the hospital for the children, where they were treated to sumptuous hot food, biscuits and drinks.
The get-together attracted some schoolchildren from the hospital’s environs.
Papa Bronya (Father Christmas) was on hand to distribute gifts to the children, while staff of the hospital who had excelled in performance, were awarded.
On arrival on the hospital’s premises, Mrs. Akufo-Addo first visited the wards where she interacted with some staff, as well as the children on admission and their parents.
The First Lady said while she was touched by the situation of the children who were suffering ailments, she was impressed by the bravery they were showing, going through treatment. She prayed with them and wished them speedy recovery.
Mrs. Akufo-Addo asked the children to be cheerful and enjoy the festive season as they were in capable hands at the hospital.
She called on parents to set good examples for their children to emulate.
She also expressed her gratitude to the management, staff, board and the many sponsors of the hospital for the hard work and diverse contributions they continue to make to enable the facility discharge its responsibilities to patients.
The Board Chairman of the hospital, Reverend Father Andrew Campbell in a remark, said a lot of children were facing divers predicaments because of parental neglect.
He, therefore, called on parents to use the festive season to spend quality time with their children at home.
The wife of the Nigerian High Commissioner in Accra, Mrs. Margaret Abikoye who also attended the party, was acknowledged for painting the hospital.
Two other bodies the Knights and Ladies of Marshal Court five, Council 10, Okponglo and the Old Students Association of the St Rose’s Senior High School, also made donations to the hospital.
